Manly Men...And Perhaps Less So.

First things first, my daughter is currently obsessed with the film NEVER ENDING STORY (which I'll admit to never seeing in the 80s...in 1984 I was 14 and too cool for kid's fantasy films....though somehow now not at all too cool to get into them and CRY WHEN THAT HORSE SINKS & DIES IN THE MUD!!! WTH?? Thats not cool. At. All.)

And so the child is incessantly singing a song by LIMAHL, who yes, despite being too fab for kid's films I was NOT too fab to have a crush on (Too Shy...Hush Hush Eye to Eye, anyone?). Right? Dig.

Killer hair, sexy pout.

On eBay now...

Limahl with 3-D glasses....does it get weirder and any sexier? I'm actually not sure.

Onward to the men's goods! No, no, menswear ladies. I've been gutting my back room at the shop and listed on eBay AT AUCTION (a bold move, no?) these relatively rare, and much more manly than Limahl's colorful 80s get up, 20s to 30s pieces. Started low, price to move! Click to get to listings...

20s to 30s cotton striped shirts w/ 44 chest....

An amazing 20s waistcoat...

And not at auction but a great buy-it-now price...a 70s disco NIK NIK shirt with a huge....rooster. With a ring on it. A ROOSTER RING.

Menswear. It can be cool!

eVintage Blog Tag Wednesday on Thursday! the Halter....

I've been tagged by SYDNEY'S VINTAGE FASHION RUNWAY for the eVINTAGE SOCIETY Wednesday Blog Tag.

Temperatures are rising and its time to show some skin! The halter neckline is a great way to leave a little to the imagination while exposing enough to stay cool and stylish. Lets talk halters!

1) Show us your favorite halter in your inventory....

I don't have a halter dress!! How crazy is that. But I DO have this Giorgio Sant' Angelo swimsuit from the 70s that comes with matching jacket and pants for a total beach ensemble....

2)Marilyn rocked the halter bodice back in the 50s, but it came back big in the 70s…..which is your favorite era for the halter?

I'm kinda leaning towards the 70s lately! In sexy jersey knits.

3)Bare backs are vulnerable, what’s your suggestion for protecting skin from the sun?

Um, I don't go into the sun. So thats my best suggestion! Stay in.

4)Halter as top or dress, whats your preference?

Dress. The tops ride up on me.

5)A bra can be a challenge…..best suggestion for support?

Tape!

*Get Belted!* and Site Updtes May 26

I end up aquiring a lot of belts with estates, and sometimes some super keen ones show up now and then on their own. I decided to add a few to the site recently.....what easier way to add a little vintage edge to a modern ensemble than cinching it with a cool belt?

30's feminine cotton floral print sashes with slide buckles in celluloid plastic will perk up jeans and a tank or add color to a solid print dress....

60s beaded and sequined Malcolm Starr belt....

60s mod pastel rings and chain belt....

60s British rocker belt in weathered leather with hand made wooden closure painted with the British flag, adjustable to a wide range of sizes....

Added late last week (I'm so far behind!!!).....

New in The Noir Boudoir...the most stunning and unusual piece of lingerie I've had the luck of coming across...a mid 50's Vanity Fair Conversation Pieces short nightgown in black chiffon and nylon with uber-racy gold lame lined sheer lace cups (the highest end of the VF line at the time and very risque for the 50s!).....

Divine size 5 40's platform shoes in navy suede with bright blue gemstone accents & ankle straps....

50's cranberry silk cocktail dress by Nettie Rosenstein with huge organza and velvet floral accent....

60s poppies and polka dot print cotton sundress....

80s draped jersey gown with rhinestone shoulder detail by Perullo for Fred Perlberg....

60s gilded, floral edged 60s sweater in shocking pink cashmere....

Marimekko inspired floral print 70s blouse by Ship n' Shore....

40s gabardine blouse with Olympic torch inspired print...

50s purple lace wiggle dress....

All links are clickable and a LOT to come this week, including a 40s satin swimsuit with flamingo and palm tree print!

eVintage BLOG TAG WEDNESDAY!~Slip of a Thing~

I've been tagged by SYDNEY'S VINTAGE FASHION RUNWAY for the eVINTAGE SOCIETY Wednesday Blog Tag.

1) Show us your favorite vintage slip in your inventory ....

I've got several new vintage slips listed and more to come, but for something different I'm showing this cool green half slip with ruffled pleated chiffon hemline in gradient shades....

2) Lace trim or chiffon trim? Whats your favorite?

Chiffon....something about the way sheer vintage chiffon creates an ethereal, dreamy glow against the skin.....sultry!

3)Colors or neutrals, whats your preference?

Color! I love unusual colors in slips...like the green above, or a lavender one I just listed.

4) Favorite label in vintage lingerie? (Vintage Vanity Fair, Vassarette, Movie Star, Barbizon....)

While Vanity Fair is always quality, I love the label "Movie Star" just for how glamorous it sounds! I've also had a slip by "Miss Flashee" and loved that one too.

5) Full slip or half?

Full. The half slip has its usefulness but a full slip makes you pretty top to bottom!

6)Slips worn as dresses in public…..yea or nay?
Love them as dresses.....out on the town with a little cardigan (layered of course for modesty over a nude slip!), the brightly colored and funky detailed slips look every bit just as fab as any new cocktail dress in a department store!

you like me......

you really like me! when i posted about LULU'S VINTAGE having a people's choice event to select the top 10 vintage websites, i was hoping to at least just get noticed and maybe make the top 10.....but #1? as utterly junior high and cheesy and silly and girlie as it is to be excited....well, i am. excited, humbled, flattered and thrilled! to those who posted all the kind words about my site during the voting, you cannot know how much it means to me to be acknowledged for what i work so hard at day in and day out, for a career doing something i love. i am lucky and blessed to be able to call this my job, and more so to have customers and friends who support that and appreciate what i do! so enough with the cheese....but thank you all. its a pretty cool feeling.

The top 10 (and i must say, i am honored too to be in such fabulous company....many of these sellers are friends of mine and inspire me daily!)....

JULIE of Damn Good Vintage couldn't be MORE in my head when it comes to, well, everything and especially politics (and I mean it, you Clinton supporters who may vote McCain out of poor sportsWOMANship and also, dumb, and weak, and stupid) and KIM, who is hilarious and smart and witty and way hilarious and also, as Julie, always RIGHT about stuff. AND!!! LISA who lives a great life and maybe doesn't realize how fabulous and quirky and chock-full-o good times it is.

BLOG TAG

I've been tagged by SYDNEY'S VINTAGE FASHION RUNWAY for the eVINTAGE SOCIETY Wednesday Blog Tag.

1) Show your favorite Rat Pack look in your inventory (early 60s suit, fedora, tie, cufflinks, loop collar shirt…..)

I looooove this fantastic plaid 60s dinner jacket! Has a sort of Jerry Lee meets Rat Pack vibe....

2) Favorite Sinatra song?

Thats a pretty tough one. I love "Violets for Your Furs", "Wait til You See Her"....his version of "Bewitched" is fantastic as well. I can't pick just one!!

3) Favorite Rat Pack member? (Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Joey Bishop, Sammy Davis Jr. or Peter Lawford)

Frank wins! But Dean's a close second.

4) Best Sinatra “era”? (40s young & skinny, 50s swingin’ crooner or 60s Rat Pack suave?)

I love how cool he became but I ADORE him as a young, skinny kid from Hoboken with that surprisingly deep baritone coming from such a little scrappy looking guy!

5) Favorite Sinatra wife? (Nancy, Ava Gardner, Mia Farrow or Barbara)

Nancy. She inspired him to become who he became (though my daughter is named after the beautiful and glamorous Ava Gardner!).

6) Been to Vegas, how many times and best Vegas story (keep it clean!)

I did go to the rockabilly weekender one year, Viva Las Vegas.....yeah. I went to it. Thats all I can say. ;?

Happy Mother's Day, Mom.

Added a song to my playlist right at the top for you! (for those not in the know, which is everyone but my Mom and I, the song "Angel Baby" by ROSIE AND THE ORIGINALS was the song she sang to me when I was a baby). I grew up listening to that 45 on the stereo in the basement, knowing it was "my song".

Thanks, Mom, for loving me that much then and now. Happy Mother's Day, Mom.....I love you. And if you (Mom, and anyone else interested!) want to see a recent version of Rosie singing this song on stage, click HERE.

I'm A Momma.

Its gonna be Mother's Day, and all the schlock they send home with a pre-K kid makes you start to feel a little sentimental. OK, and hormones, and normal Mom-like emotions. Hence the change in the music player. Some songs from the CD I burned to take to the hospital to play during the event (as if.)...and some she likes now. Enjoy. And Happy Mom's Day. They should invent a mixed drink for this holiday, no?

Shopping for Happiness....

"Happiness is never an accident. It is the prize we get when we choose wisely from life's great stores"

A quote from IRENE DUNNE'S father, who passed away when she was quite young. And pretty powerful.

Apparently, the wardobers for Irene Dunne in the film THE AWFUL TRUTH knew how to shop for happiness (and didn't have to duck PETA members) when they dressed her in this fantastical, luxe fox fur coat for this scene in the film....

I don't care how animal rights you are, those fox would be dead by now and daaaayum, thats too old school glam-fabulous to be angry over!!!

The Glamorous? Leona Helmsley

Again with the LESLIE HINDMAN AUCTIONS coming up on eBay. Much of what they're offering this round is from the estate of LEONA HELMSLEY, the iconic 80's Queen of Mean. Apparently these are things her dog, Trouble, opted not to wear.....

A floral print 70s evening gown (ruffles much?)...

Sequins and feathers....and sequins, plus more feathers....

Will the final prices impress Leona? Only Trouble will know....

Remember, if you're bidding on an eBay live auction, you'll pay an extra buyer's premium. And only the little people pay a buyer's premium......
