40something

Vogue magazine declares "the 40s are in". Shoulder pads are making the runway rounds again. Suits worn as separates are the hot look for fall. Its the perfect time to mix a little real 40s with your modern wardrobe! These 40s pieces epitomize the iconic look without looking too much like you're headed to a U.S.O. party. All pics click to the site where you'll find tons more vintage (and yes, lots of 40s!).

The classic 40s suit, wide shoulders, nipped waist, pencil skirt, cool details...perfect together with some chunky accessories, tights & booties or separately layered into a myriad of ensembles!

Early 40s wool set in hunter green plaid, body conscious vest and skirt fantastic worn together over a short puff sleeve blouse, under a belted sweater or worn separately worked into scads of outfits! Imagine the vest belted over a skinny turtle neck with wide leg denim!

For a classic evening look, a sequined bodice crepe full length gown is red carpet perfect....

And for at home entertaining or an elegant evening out, leopard velvet meets amber silk chiffon!....

The darling little T strap shoes she has on, with a matching handbag will be listed separately!
A golden gabardine....
And a cool kiwi with white bead trim...several more, don't miss this collection!

(again, all pieces sold in 2006, just recapping the pretty!)

These beauties are now $50 and with luck, several more will be today (I'll update the blog and TWITTER as I go)....

Today, a few fantastic 40s day dresses in cool green prints, done in a crisp cotton...perfect for summer!

40s larger size rayon with Victorian men & women in silhouette, a few minor flaws but easily worn despite them!

And a fun late 40s sundress with purple rose print, velvet bows and rhinestones!

Watch for casual 50s dress, 60s dresses, 70s dresses and lingerie to be added to the $50 event over the next few weeks! Join our NEWSLETTER LIST to get an email (maybe 2, if I'm ambitious) a week with updates on new items, news, sales and more from the website.

Not Your Average Vintage Leopard Print Dress!

This may be the best dress I've ever had OR seen! A lovely woman came in the shop today and brought a whole load of clothing that had belonged to her Mother, Mother-in-law and Aunt. There are some pretty great dresses but this one takes the grand price for cat-related novelty prints! Black and white leopard kittens playing with colorful balls on soft ivory crepe rayon, from the late 30s. Angular peaked hip pockets and flirty bows and cap sleeves on bodice. Quite possibly inspired by "Baby" from the classic film "Bringing Up Baby".

I'll have it on the site Monday (pic click to the 40s page so get ready to grab it!

I'm just about to add this fabulous little red sundress with gold and black Hawaiian print with the coveted PEGGY WOOD label! Its another piece from the collection of SPENCER COMMUNITY THEATRE, proceeds go to support the theatre!

2)Favorite era for Hawaiian? 40's exotic gowns, 50s bombshell sarongs, 60s printed shifts or 70's Hawaiian halter maxis?

40s for sure. Beaded tropical print gowns, palm tree print swimwear in satins....so glamorous!

3)Favorite exotic destination if money were no object?

Given that I am terrified to fly, thats a tough one. Maybe a cruise to Hawaii. I'm not really a global traveling type!
